Introduction

Sotheby’s London presents ‘Colin Davidson: Window Self-Portraits’, a solo exhibition which sees Davidson return to cityscapes and urban window reflections, a subject that has been a thread throughout his 30-year career. Taking London as its focus, with detours to New York, Chicago and Washington, these new paintings are presented primarily as elusive self-portraits, expanding Davidson’s continued inventiveness with the genre. The play of refracted light, movement and colour create images at once solid and fleeting as surfaces dissolve and space extends and recedes.

Representing Davidson’s first solo exhibition in five years, the works will be on view at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin from 9–12 November and Sotheby’s London from 15–22 November 2023.
